Jodie King Gallery presents "The Rebels Rising" opening reception

eventdetail

Austin-based artist Jodie King is bringing out the rebel in artists and encouraging them to show up and be seen. "The Rebels Rising" features figurative abstract art of seven badass rebels, including Willie Nelson, Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou, Jesus, Great Grandmother Lovell, The Bootlegger John Cerril Smajstrla, and maybe Harriet Tubman.

In one piece, King's Great Grandmother Lovell is photographed in frill and lace, but King's loving memory of Lovell is from deep in the swamps of Louisiana trapping muskrat. King’s mantra for her great grandmother, ‘giving zero f’s since 1904.’ Needless to say, Ozite Lovell was the OG rebel in Jodie’s life.
