"Influences" is a journey through the external forces that have impacted Clara Newby's work, and helped shape the outward expression of her internal artistic vision.
Throughout her 60-year career, Newby's work has been shaped by a variety of external influences. In the 1960s she began studying with prominent painter, Simon Michael, who is considered the grandfather of the Rockport art community. Later, she explored new techniques under the tutelage of watercolorist, Ken Hosmer.
Once air travel became more accessible in the 1970s, she began traveling abroad. Her creativity was ignited by these new and foreign settings. She painted her way through Europe, Canada, and Hawaii. Even in recent years, she has continued to be influenced as an artist, experimenting with modern techniques such as alcohol ink.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through April 1.
