ProyectoTEATRO kicks off their 20th anniversary season with Cabarex: Orígenes an originally-devised, Spanish-language cabaret show to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

The production is a comedic, risqué journey to discover the origins of the Latino world (or, at least, ProyectoTEATRO’s version of how it all began). Audiences will learn how the Malinche seduced Cortez (and perhaps with what *wink*), discover the birthplace of Latino passion, catch a glimpse of Cristopher Columbus and his band of skimpy colonizers, the Virgin Mary’s debut, and more spicy cultural quirks in a full-on, bedazzled cabaret show full of dance, improv, drag, and live singing.

The production marks the start of ProyectoTEATRO's 2023-2024 residency at The VORTEX and will be the first chapter of the company's Cabarex trilogy, a collaborative project with other local Latinx artists exploring Latino cultural and history through theatre, improv, dance, live singing, drag, and sketch comedy.

The show will be performed in Spanish, Spanglish, and with English supertitles.
