Texas Early Music Project presents 24 Italian Hits: Arias and Art Songs. Designed in the same mode as TEMP’s educational outreach program to Austin-area schools, the concert presentation re-imagines the songs from this enduring and beautiful vocal literature in the style of a soap opera with international heritage. Featuring such hits as “Caro mio ben,” “Per la gloria d’adorarvi,” “Che fiero costume,” and more, six of TEMP’s virtuosic soloists, assisted by a small continuo group and orchestra, spin a classic soap opera yarn using these very well-known “hits” from 17th and 18th century Italian opera and chamber music.
Highly presentational, unapologetically virtuosic, and entirely entertaining, this is a performance of timeless drama and very timely comedy, love, passion and high notes.
The Saturday, October 7 performance will be at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, while the Sunday, October 8 performance will be at First Presbyterian Church.
