After more than 25 years as one of Austin’s most lauded Scenic Designers, Ann Marie Gordon is retiring. This moment marks a major transition in her prolific career as the resident scenic designer for The VORTEX, as well as Ethos, Different Stages, and Kids’ Acting, and as a guest artist for dozens of other artists and companies in Austin.

Gordon’s accolades include an unprecedented eight B. Iden Payne Awards for her Outstanding Scenic Designs. Another highlight of her career has been mentoring several generations of The VORTEX’s Summer Youth Theatre, designing scenery for each show and teaching teenagers design, carpentry, painting, ethics, and aesthetics.

Guests can say Bon Voyage to Ann Marie in the Butterfly Garden at The VORTEX. Social distancing and masks will be required as well as other Butterfly Bar protocols. Soft drinks and sweets will be provided.
