Wally Workman Gallery will present a solo show with abstract painter Joyce Howell. Howell’s palette is informed by nature and its flux between calm and chaos, creating what she describes as loose landscapes. She describes the process as an ongoing conversation.
An intuitive painter, each color and mark applied to the canvas informs the next; colors give the impression of physical weight and become instruments, much as in a musical composition. As the work progresses, the painting becomes a collaboration, a dialogue between Howell and the canvas.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display until March 30.
