Austin's top student spellers compete for this year's coveted title of Austin's Best Speller and the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. Fifty students have advanced to the regional round from a group of 110 local school spelling bee school winners in a 10 county zone: Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Milam, Travis and Williamson. The 50 advancing students were selected by their scores from an online spelling and vocabulary test administered by Scripps.
