Let it Flow
Local hip-hop artists let it 'flow' every week at Austin Mic Exchange
Editor's note: CultureMap is proud to present the latest installment in our partnership with KLRU's documentary series Arts in Context Shorts. This unique series celebrates stories about the arts in Austin and the people who make this such a vibrant and creative city.
The latest installment of KLRU’s Arts in Context Shorts looks at Austin’s fiercely enthusiastic hip-hop scene as artists gather to expand their audience and hone their craft at open mic nights organized by the Austin Mic Exchange.
Hosted at the Spider House Ballroom, these weekly gatherings showcase local freestylers as they fuse ingenuity and speed to create a captivating experience. Using creativity and a memory bank of words, artists improvise performances filled with emotion and originality. The Austin Mic Exchange organizes these open mic nights to provide an opportunity for local emcees to connect with peers, promote their work and cultivate the hip-hop community here in Austin.
