The Ladies Are Funny Festival announces lineup featuring headliner Sue Galloway, plus tickets on sale now
Ladies are funny: it’s a fact, not a question. And nobody knows it better than the Ladies Are Funny Festival (LAFF), who proudly proclaim that there’s “[n]o need to prove or debate this point, though we do see good cause to celebrate it.”
The homegrown Austin event celebrates its sixth year this May, taking over the Salvage Vanguard Theater (and several other venues) from May 9-12 to present scripted shows, improv acts, stand-up and short films from some of the biggest talents in the industry — like headliner Sue Galloway (30 Rock, SNL), who will be presenting her one-woman show, Pose.
The only all-female comedy fest in Texas (and one of the few of its kind in the country) will welcome acts from New York, LA, Chicago and Toronto, plus plenty of locals, like the insanely talented improv team Girls Girls Girls. Some of Austin’s best stand-ups (who just happen to be women) will also be appearing, including Kath Barbadoro, Kat Ramzinski, Maggie Maye, Maggie Macdonald, Roxy Castillo and CultureMap’s own Katie Pengra and Ralphie Hardesty.
"Women are funny. No need to prove or debate this point, though we do see good cause to celebrate it.”
Plus, Skinny Bitch Jesus Meeting will be bringing their hilarious, high-energy, totally absurd act to the fest for the fifth year, and we couldn’t be more excited to catch them alongside groups like The Bennets and Butt Kapinski.
And we’re really looking forward to seeing headliner Galloway, whose show Pose brings the fictional, titular women’s magazine to life; “Learn to live your boldest life,” the show promises. “You are the tool for your own success!” Galloway, recognizable as TGS writer Sue on 30 Rock, is also a contributing writer for SNL’s Weekend Update, a member of the Friar’s Club Improv and Sketch Competition-winning team Onassis and co-creator of the web series Office Mates and Namedroppers.
(Also! Check out today’s installment of the podcast It’s That Episode with Craig Rowin; the show, which reviews a classic TV episode each week, features Galloway and host Rowin dissecting the Cheers pilot, “Give Me A Ring Sometime.”)
