AMOA-Arthouse offers free admission in celebration of Art Museum Day
Saturday, May 18 marks the 4th annual Art Museum Day. The initiative, founded by the Association of Art Museum Directors, is held in concert with International Museum Day. In 2012, approximately 125 member museums offered free admission and special programs and events in an international celebration of the importance of museums in our world.
This year, art museums around the country will again celebrate with discounts and special programming. Austinites can take advantage of the celebration by visiting AMOA-Arthouse's two locations: downtown at The Jones Center, and the tranquil West Austin setting of Laguna Gloria.
AMOA-Arthouse will offer free admission on May 18, encouraging museum-goers to experience family-friendly fun at the museum. Both locations will feature interactive programming throughout the day, as well as docent led tours from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. In addition, the Jones Center Community Room will host a free screening of Küçük Sinemalar! Experimental Cinema from Turkey at 7 p.m.
If you happen to venture outside of Austin this weekend, plenty of spaces around the Lone Star State are also celebrating Art Museum Day. Fort Worth's Amon Carter, Modern Art Museum and Kimbell Art Museum; Dallas' Nasher Sculpture Center and Meadows Museum; The San Antonio Museum of Art and The Menil Collection in Houston are participating.
