Which roads to avoid during this weekend's Austin Marathon
Bright and early on Sunday, February 16, thousands of runners will descend on Austin for the annual Austin Marathon, Half Marathon and Paramount 5K. In total, 20,000 runners will take to the streets for a race that traverses Austin covering ground from the Capitol to Ben White Blvd. to Great Northern Parkway.
To accommodate the race, many Austin street closures will be in place. In order to prepare for the weekend (and add ease to your Sunday drive through town), the City of Austin provides a listing of street closures, which run through 6 pm on Sunday. You can also check out a detailed Austin Marathon route map.
Sunday's closures are as follows:
Congress Avenue
Between 5th Street and 11th Street
This closure will go into effect on February 15 at 3 am and will reopen on February 16 at 6 pm.
10th Street, 9th Street, 8th Street
Between Brazos Street and Colorado Street
This closure will go into effect on February 15 at 3 am and will reopen on February 16 at 6 pm. Lanes on 7th Street between Brazos and Colorado will be reduced during the same period.
North Congress Avenue
Between 15th Street and 17th Street
This closure will go into effect on February 15 at noon and will reopen on February 16 at 3:30 pm.
16th Street
Between San Jacinto Boulevard and Colorado Street
This closure will go into effect on February 15 at noon and will reopen on February 16 at 8 am.
Congress Avenue
Between 4th Street and 5th Street
This closure goes into effect at 2 am on February 16 and will re-open at 6 pm.
East 9th Street
Between San Jacinto Boulevard and Brazos Street
This closure goes into effect at 2 am on February 16 and will re-open at 6 pm. Lanes on East 8th Street, between San Jacinto and Brazos, will also be restricted during this time.
5th Street, 6th Street, 7th Street
Between Brazos Street and Colorado Street
This closure goes into effect at 2 am on February 16 and will re-open at 6 pm.
Brazos Street
Between East 7th Street and East 11th Street
This closure goes into effect at 2 am on February 16 and will re-open at 6 pm.
West Cesar Chavez Street
Between Congress Avenue and Guadalupe Street
This closure goes into effect at 6 am on February 16 and will re-open at 8 am.
San Jacinto Boulevard
Between East 11th Street and East 15th Street
This closure goes into effect at 6:30 am on February 16 and will re-open at 2 pm.
11th Street
Between San Jacinto Boulevard and Guadalupe Street
This closure goes into effect at 6 am on February 16 and will re-open at 4 pm.
Congress Avenue
Between 15th Street and MLK Jr. Boulevard
This closure goes into effect at 2 am on February 16 and will re-open at 11 am.
MLK Jr. Boulevard
Between Red River Street and Guadalupe Street
This closure goes into effect at 2 am on February 16 and will re-open at 11 am.
Guadalupe Street
Between West Cesar Chavez Street and West 11th Street
This closure goes into effect at 6 am on February 16 and will re-open at 12:30 pm.
East 18th Street
Between San Jacinto Boulevard and Colorado Street
This closure goes into effect at 2 am on February 16 and will re-open at 11 am.
East 17th Street
Between San Jacinto Boulevard and Colorado Street
This closure goes into effect at 2 am on February 16 and will re-open at 4 pm.
15th Street
Between Trinity Street and Lavaca Street
This closure goes into effect at 2 am on February 16 and will re-open at 12:30 pm.
