Hill Country Changes
Salt Lick owner plans hotel and more around favorite Hill Country BBQ joint
KVUE — A major development is underway just south of Austin; it will be built around a restaurant that has won national awards and is a household name in Central Texas.
Driftwood is a new development from Salt Lick owner Scott Roberts. It will be centered around The Salt Lick and will include 85 homes on 560 acres, with 230 acres of open space, a vineyard, a 9-mile trail system, and a hotel.
"It's a lot different than the other developments. We are a sustainable conservation development," said Roberts.
Driftwood has been in the works for years, but just recently, Roberts finished the roads leading to the first phase of home plots available for sale. He says the goal is to develop while preserving the heart of the Hill Country.
"We wanted to make sure that after our development, you can still swim in Onion Creek like we did as kids. We knew that the only way to ensure that that would happen is to build it. And so we built it."
