Richest Families
These Texas families are among the richest in America
The latest list of America's Richest Families from Forbes includes quite a few names from the Lone Star State. Nineteen Texas families, all with a combined net worth of $1.2 billion or more, made the cut.
The richest family in Texas, and No. 10 in the United States, is the Duncan family from Houston, with a net worth of $22.4 billion divided among four family members. Family patriarch Charles Duncan made a fortune in pipelines before his death in 2010 and passed on his considerable wealth to his heirs.
Dallas' Hunt family is the second richest in Texas, with an estimated net worth of $14.2 billion divided among 33 family members. The Hunts are No. 15 on the national list; their source of wealth is oil.
While much of the wealth is derived from oil and gas exploration, Texans on the richest list made their fortunes in such disparate industries as supermarkets, fast food, auto dealerships and sporting goods.
