Clean, running water is probably something that most people take for granted, but it is a luxury for many parts of the world. Austin-based Well Aware wants to change that.
The nonprofit organization builds 100 percent sustainable wells and has impacted more than 180,000 people in communities in Kenya and Tanzania by providing clean water. Well Aware's goal is to reach 200,000 people by the end of the year.
Helping them get there are Hollywood actress and producer Mary Elizabeth Ellis and award-winning National Geographic creative photographer and filmmaker Greg Davis, whom Well Aware will honor as the first recipients of the Global Impact Award and Ambassador of the Year Award.
Well Aware supporters can raise a glass to the pair at the Rockin' In a Winter Waterland holiday party on December 9 from 6-10 pm at Impact Hub's South Austin location on Monroe Street.
"Both Mary Elizabeth Ellis and Greg Davis have contributed so much to the success of our organization and our ability to provide clean water for life for more than 180,000 people," says Well Aware CEO and founder Sarah Evans. "As an advocate for us, Ellis has impacted thousands of lives through helping us build wells in east Africa, and many people have shared that they were first introduced to Well Aware through Greg Davis’ Well Aware photography series. We are thrilled to honor them with these awards."
Ellis, star of the television series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, states, "I'm very proud to be part of this nonprofit. Well Aware provides such a beautiful opportunity to be involved in raising the human condition on a global level. The effect that one well can have on a whole community astounded me, especially the impact on women and children."
