Formula One weekend is upon us, which means a few things: fast cars, sexy accents and some uber-glam events popping up around town. Though the race isn't until Sunday, November 17, F1 fans are already arriving and turning our hip hollow into a destination for world-class decadence.
While the paupers among us may be planning to simply attend Fan Fest or watch the race on television, how will our wealthy counterparts be marking F1 weekend? In the lap of luxury, of course.
Imagine a night club in Ibiza, complete with internationally renowned DJs, F1 drivers, models, celebrities and local VIPs, but in the middle of the Lone Star State, and you'll be pretty close to envisioning My Yacht Club. Okay, so it's not technically on a yacht, but the staff at My Yacht Club descended on Ballet Austin to transform it into a glittery, glamorous paradise that would make any millionaire feel right at home.
For a mere $50,000, you can nab a private area designed specially for you and up to 20 of your guests. The price tag also comes with your very own wait staff, two security guards, 10 "Golden Girls" (it should be noted, they're not talking about the Bea Arthur kind) and personally engraved, six-liter commemorative bottles of champagne. They'll throw in the booze.
Don't have that kind of cash? Don't worry — you can still get in on the action. For $300, you can gain entry and nab some free drinks. While everyone has remained pretty tight-lipped about the guest list, we have it on good authority that you will be sipping champagne with some serious A-list celebrities at this event.
Hate traffic? Want to cut the commute from downtown to the race track down to, well, about 10 minutes? Hire a private helicopter to get you there.
Hitching a ride downtown is going to cost you, though. From the pickup spot just south of Zilker Park, weekend packages from Austin Helicopter Tours cost about $2,075, and that's just for one person. Bringing a friend? It's going to cost you double.
But for those who can afford it, the ability to bypass the traffic and take off just moments before the flag drops is the ultimate luxury.
The Monaco-based Amber Lounge is marking its 10th anniversary — and making its Austin debut — on Friday, November 15, and hosting a decadent weekend of events. The traveling party (they throw events in Abu Dhabi, Monaco, Shanghai and Barcelona, among other places) offers the ultimate in luxury. Think sipping champagne while rubbing elbows with Bono luxury. Previous attendees include Elizabeth Hurley, Elle Macpherson, Steven Tyler, Heidi Klum, Kevin Spacey, Eva Herzigova, Kim Kardashian and every girl's best friend, Jennifer Lawrence.
Held at the Copper Tank Event Center, Amber Lounge will feature the Black Eyed Peas' Taboo spinning tunes while you sip on Dom Perignon and Moet & Chandon.
Just don't plan on Instagramming your adventures: photo and video (even of the cell-phone variety) are strictly prohibited. This is a rule Amber Lounge founder and owner Sonia Irvine takes very seriously. "I wanted to create a stylish, unique VIP nightlife experience where F1 teams, drivers, sponsors and celebrities could relax and enjoy themselves away from the eyes of press and media. A relaxed haven where we could all just have fun," says Irvine. So put those iPhones away.
So, what is this going to cost you? Well, it ain't cheap. For $34,850, you can get yourself a Methusalem Table — the best table in the house. Along with eight guests, get ready to be presented with a six-liter Methusalem bottle of champagne, unlimited drinks and concierge to fulfill virtually any special request you might have.
Those of us without 35 grand lying around can gain entrance on Friday and Saturday for $380 (that's per day!). Attending Sunday's post-race festivities will set you back $540.
It should be noted that Austinites need to dress up for this one. No sandals, long shorts, t-shirts or slippers allowed.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story stated that My Yacht Club was a on a boat. While My Yacht Club events usually do take place on luxurious yachts, the Austin My Yacht Club will be held at Ballet Austin.
