Austin news feed: Meet the Austinite of the Year and more
Editor's note: Over the course of a week, we come across dozens of newsy tidbits and interesting links that we want to share with you. For this weekly roundup, we gather all the news we found fascinating, horrifying, important and hilarious.
1. Meet the Austinite of the Year. The Austin Chamber of Commerce has named Mayor Lee Leffingwell Austinite of the Year. Leffingwell will receive the honor in January 2015.
2. Proof that Alex Jones is Bill Hicks. This conspiracy theory, in the form of a 33-minute video, suggests that Infowars' Alex Jones is in fact deceased Texas comedian Bill Hicks.
3. Job authority adds to depression in women, not men. A new study from UT Austin asserts that "women with job authority — the ability to hire, fire and influence pay — have significantly more symptoms of depression than women without this power." Men with job authority, however, exhibit fewer signs of depressions.
4. Skip the line at Franklin. In case you need a reminder, we revisit Eater's guide to pre-ordering at Franklin (January preorders open on December 1).
