Holiday shipping picks up, Fed Ex predicts busiest day in company history
KVUE -- Packages full of presents are starting to leave warehouses around the world.
The holiday shipping boom will pick up Monday morning. Experts are predicting it to be one of the busiest years on record. They say a surge in online sales spawned the additional deliveries. Online shopping hit some record numbers as well. Sales online shot up nearly 30 percent over last year.
At FedEx crews are now preparing for what’s expected to be the busiest day in company history. Last week drivers spent hours sorting packages and loading trucks.
"Obviously the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is our busiest time of the year. It's one we really get excited about because this is what we do. It's what we specialize in," explained a FedEx spokesperson.
In all they're expecting to make 19 million shipments on Monday; that's about double what the company does on a typical day. The deliveries will continue from now until Christmas.
