If you have pets, taking them to the vet is a famously difficult task. Some mobile vets offer basic exams and vaccinations, but surgeries, dental procedures, X-rays, and the like traditionally meant wrestling your pet(s) into the car or carrier and a stressful wait in an unfamiliar place — not to mention taking time off work and possibly arranging childcare for while you're gone.
That's why Dr. Katie Eick opened Rockin' Pets, Rollin’ Vets in Houston in 2016, and recently began servicing the Austin market in September 2022.
"Our patients and clients love the convenience of having us pull right up to their home for pet care," says Dr. Eick. "No driving in Austin traffic, no sitting in crowded waiting rooms surrounded by strange animals, no wrangling the animal into the car. The overall experience is a lot less stressful than the traditional vet clinic experience."
It was only natural for Dr. Eick to eventually bring the concept to Austin, a place she previously called home. In fact, her love of live music inspired the company's original name: South by South Vets.
Today, Rollin’ Vets is a true full-service mobile vet clinic, offering the same breadth of services you would expect at a traditional brick-and-mortar vet's office.
In addition to standard wellness exams and vaccines, the mobile clinics are equipped to perform dental procedures, laser therapy, X-rays, and vaccines, and there's even a surgical suite for soft tissue surgery.
The mobile service is especially appreciated during the most difficult time in a pet owner's life.
"At-home euthanasia is the hardest part of our job, but it’s also the service that we feel the most honored to be able to provide," says Dr. Eick. "The procedure is performed in the comfort of the patient’s home and in familiar surroundings, lessening the stress on the animal. We prioritize the comfort of the animal, ensuring that the process is painless and peaceful. Our doctors and techs take the utmost care of the animal throughout the entire process, alleviating as much anxiety from the pet and owner as possible."
