Weekend Roundup
Here are 5 things to do in Austin this weekend if you're ditching SXSW
The city will be full of tourists and major foot traffic for a few more days. Allow us to keep you out of the festival mess with the five best non-SXSW things to do this weekend. For a full listing of events, visit our events calendar.
Jack & Ginger’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the recently opened Jack & Ginger’s Irish Pub. The authentic Irish eatery will block off part of Rock Rose Avenue in The Domain for its inaugural holiday party. Attendees will enjoy live music, 82 beers on tap, Irish and American comfort food, and the sweet sound of bagpipes. (We've got the scoop on other St. Paddy's Day parties too.)
Rodeo Austin
Break out your best pair of cowboy boots and head to the rodeo this weekend. Visit the Travis County Expo Center through March 26 for the livestock show, live music, barrel racing, and more — it's a true Texas experience.
Old Gruene Market Days
Head south of Austin this weekend to shop handmade items and unique finds from artisans and vendors during Old Gruene Market Days on Saturday and Sunday. Nestled in the Gruene Historic District, this monthly fair also serves as a gateway to the town's dining, shopping, and entertainment scene.
Music at the Blanton: Bach in the Subways
Get an exclusive performance of Bach’s greatest works this Saturday at an intimate affair at the Blanton Museum of Art. University of Texas professor Michael Domjan will play works from the great composer as a part of the international project Bach in the Subways.
Robert Plant in concert
Music legend and veteran rocker Robert Plant and his band the Sensational Space Shifters will play ACL Live Sunday night. Most known for fronting Led Zeppelin, it should come as no surprise that this show is completely sold out. However, there's always the StubHub or Craigslist negotiation route.
