Whether your New Year's resolution is to be more active, reduce stress, spend more time with friends, or pick up a new hobby, there's one place that fits every bill: Hatchet Alley.
The new, locally owned axe-throwing venue — one of the largest in Texas — is now open near downtown Austin, bringing with it bocce ball and football bowling in addition to the trendy axes.
There are 24 throwing lanes in the 13,000-square-foot space, which is much swankier than the typical spartan warehouse. Instructors are on-hand to give pointers and one-on-one instruction to newbies, as well as keep score while you and your group hurl steel blades through the air toward the bullseye targets.
It's also BYOB (just beer and wine, because safety) so you can bring your favorite craft brew to enjoy while perfecting your throw. For that reason (and, again, safety), all participants must be 21 and up and wear closed-toe shoes.
Pricing starts at $30 per person for groups of six and up, and $20 per person for solo and small group walk-ins on a first-come, first-served basis. All in all, Hatchet Alley can hold up to 600 people at a time, making it ideal for corporate events, bachelor and bachelorette blowouts, and birthday parties.
The company was founded by Austinites Earl Ball, George Launey, and Will Pitts, all three of whom have launched successful Austin-based businesses in recent years.
Hatchet Alley is open seven days a week from 11 am-11 pm, and is located at 443 Bastrop Highway, next to the iconic Callahan's General Store.
