Matthew Logan Vasquez kicks off residency at C-Boys, plus more Austin music picks for early February
January is done, and that means it’s time to start getting warmed up for SXSW. Here are some local shows in the first part of February that can help get you going.
Matthew Logan Vasquez at C-Boys – February 2, 9, 16, 23
Singer/songwriter Matthew Logan Vasquez (of Delta Spirit fame) has not only lined up a residency at C-Boys for every Thursday in February, but he’s also arranged for each show to have a different setup (i.e. a folk night, an electronic night, etc). So, pick your preferred style and go for it. These gigs are $12 apiece.
Die Spitz at Hotel Vegas – February 3
Buzzy grunge act Die Spitz recently released their debut album, Teeth, and they’ll celebrate the occasion at Hotel Vegas’ “Winter Party” this Friday, February 3. Tear Dungeon and Rose Hips round out the bill. Tickets for this show are $10.
KOOP Birthday Bash at Antone’s – February 4
Ring in community radio station KOOP’s 28th birthday at Antone’s this Saturday, February 4. Latin funk/soul/rock act Brownout will headline the evening, and they’ll be supported by Hot Texas Swing Band. Tickets are $20.
Jane Leo at Hotel Vegas – February 5, 12, 19, 26
Jane Leo, which features Jane Ellen Bryant and Daniel James Leopold (of Leopold and His Fiction), will be putting out their debut album on February 17, and they’re set to break it in at Hotel Vegas across every Sunday this month. Tickets for each gig are $10. Support is as follows:

Rod Gator at Hotel Vegas – February 8
Southern rocker Rod Gator has a new album on the way, and the first single for it is getting a release party at Hotel Vegas on Wednesday, February 8. Support for the evening includes the Otis Wilkins Trio, Colton Cerny & The Hog Leg Band , and Ol' Saint Walt. Tickets are $10.
Valentine’s Showcase at Volstead – February 14
If you’re in need of a quality activity on Tuesday, February 14, then look no further than the Valentine’s Showcase happening at Volstead. The lineup includes an accessible trio of indie acts - Sun June, Star Parks, and Hey Cowboy. Tickets for the show are $12.
