One-day conference connects Austin creatives with workshops and more
Clear those calendars, creatives! Work Conference (emphasis on "work," as in "body of" or "yes, queen!") is returning to Austin on Saturday, February 17, for a day of inspiration, connection, and hands-on learning.
Launched in 2018, Work emerged from genuine conversations between women and LGBTQ+ leaders in creative industries, tech, nonprofit communities, small business, and the arts. The annual one-day gathering serves as an opportunity to share stories, community-source inspiration, and discuss frameworks required to do meaningful work.
“Our conference is really distinct in that attendees see folks in creative and entrepreneurial leadership positions," says Jane Hervey, founder and executive creative director of Future Front Texas, the team that hosts the conference. "They're running small businesses or nonprofits. There are also freelancers and people pursuing independent creative projects outside of nine-to-five jobs — people figuring out how to maintain a creative identity while working."
This year's lineup tackles topics like creativity, community-building, brand storytelling, goal-mapping, and work-life balance. Speakers range from Texas Poet Laureate Amanda Johnston to designer Michelle Kao.
“We’ve designed a conference that isn't as overwhelming as some other spaces can be," says Hervey. "A big question for me when planning this event is how we really get people comfortable and open to learning — giving them enough time, space, and support to learn something new and come in with an open, learning mindset."
Attendees can expect a full day of inspiring, interactive sessions including behind-the-scenes art tours of UT Austin's Landmarks public art program, complimentary professional headshot sessions to update portfolios, and immersive workshops on topics like storytelling through design and integrating wellness into work.
“This is your time — time to set aside six hours for community-sourced inspiration,” says Hervey. “We have sounding board sessions where attendees can share ideas and get literal feedback or recommendations on what they're working on.”
Whether participating in a guided meditation session with a social wellness entrepreneur or learning Instagram strategy from a nonprofit marketing pro, attendees will walk away with tangible tips and takeaways. And beyond scheduled programming, the conference provides valuable time to connect with fellow creatives.
The full schedule and first round of speakers are live at meetyouatwork.com. Passes are $35 for the full day of activities and panels.
