August has arrived, and right away Austin’s music scene is coming at you with can’t-miss album release shows and more. See here for all the highlights taking place in the first half of the month.
L.C. Franke at the Paramount Theater – Saturday, August 3
Jeff Klein (formerly of My Jerusalem) is now operating as L.C. Franke, and he’ll be ringing in the recent release of his debut album, Still In Bloom, at the State Theater this Saturday, August 3. Jo Alice will open for the crooner. Tickets are $25-30.
The Murdocks at Hotel Vegas – Saturday, August 3
Get to Hotel Vegas this Saturday, August 3, to see The Murdocks play their first show in 12 years. The rockers will be joined by Ram Vela & The Easy Targets, and tickets will be $10 at the door. Heads up, it’s an early one with music starting at 7pm.
Elliott Smith Tribute at Hotel Vegas – Tuesday, August 6
If you’re an Elliott Smith fan, then don’t miss out on this tribute show at Hotel Vegas on Tuesday, August 6. The list of performers is a rock solid one that features the likes of Slomo Drags, Daphne Tunes, Booher, Jack & Grace, and Dwight Smith. It’ll be $15 at the door and proceeds will benefit The Sims Foundation.
Font at The Parish – Friday, August 9
Post-punk act Font may have dropped their well-regarded debut album, Strange Burden, in early July, but the hometown show to celebrate its release is only just now coming around – it’ll happen at The Parish on Friday, August 9. Support for the evening includes Steven Leftovers and Pelvis Wrestley. Tickets are $16.
Angel White at Saxon Pub – Friday, August 16
Angel White’s alluring mix of folk, country, soul, and rock will be on display at Saxon Pub on Friday, August 16. The singer-songwriter will be joined by The Random Brothers. Tickets for the show are $15 in advance, $20 the day-of.
Urban Heat at 3TEN – Saturday, August 17
Synth rockers Urban Heat will release their anticipated new album, The Tower, on August 16, and then they’ll follow it up with a release show at 3TEN on the next night, Saturday, August 17. They’ll be joined by Gvllow and Delores Galore, and tickets for the gig are $20.
