Big Easy vibes hit Austin with the debut of White Linen Night
Taking a cue from The Big Easy, the Second Street District is bringing White Linen Night to Austin on Saturday, August 3.
Originated in New Orleans, the concept brings the community out of the house and into the streets during the long, hot days of summer. Following the huge success of the event in Houston, producers look forward to a new spin on the tradition in the Capital City.
Local artists will fill gallery spaces, businesses and sidewalks of the Second Street District for the first annual event. Guests — dressed in white, of course — will enjoy complimentary cocktails from Tito’s Vodka, along with live music from Ruby Jane, Mayeux & Broussard and Eagle Eye Williamson.
“With White Linen, we will be showcasing local artists and musicians, and in the true spirit of community, many of our Second Street District businesses will be joining the artists in donating a percentage of sales from the evening to Caritas of Austin. I cannot think of a better event to exemplify 'Where Texas Warmth Meets Austin Cool,'” said Retail Marketing Manager Julie Sutton-McGurk.
“I'm excited to unleash the art community on downtown and create a cultural exchange that will result in the first White Linen Night in Austin,” said Travis Huse, founder of Big Ass Canvas, the event's producer. “This will be a night of pure magic where the community comes together, celebrates local and gives back to the community.”
Caritas of Austin provides a service continuum for those experiencing poverty that begins with a safety net and links them to resources to achieve self-sufficiency. “We are grateful to be a member of the Austin downtown community filled with so many generous businesses and residents. Caritas’ work to prevent and end homelessness through housing, food, education and employment services would not be possible without the community’s support,” said Caritas of Austin Executive Director Jo Kathryn Quinn.
Austin's first annual White Linen Night will take place Saturday, August 3 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Immediately following the event, an after party will be held at The Bonneville.
