No more trips to Houston: Megabus cancels one of its $1 routes

Megabus, bus
The Megabus route between Houston and Austin, which was operated by other carriers, has been canceled.  Megabus/Facebook

Oh, how we celebrated the announcement of Megabus.com's Texas routes! Fares to Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and New Orleans starting at $1! Free Wi-Fi and clean restrooms! Double-decks to stretch out in!

Perhaps that was all too good to be true: Travelers will find that, when attempting to book a trip through the online reservation system, Houston is no longer a destination option when departing from Austin, nor vice-versa.

KHOU reports that the route cancelation has something to do with "a legal conflict with two of the bus companies that contract with it." (Kerrville Bus Company was serving Megabus routes between Houston and Austin.)

The services from Austin to Dallas/Fort Worth and San Antonio will continue, and the pick up/drop off stop can be found at Whitis Ave between W 20th St and W 21st St.
