Welcome to the jungle
Amazon-linked startup scouts East Austin for new global headquarters
Jungle Scout, a startup whose software helps entrepreneurs sell goods through e-commerce giant Amazon, has established its global headquarters in East Austin after previously operating with an entirely remote workforce.
Forty people currently work at Jungle Scout’s new Austin office, which is inside an Endeavor Real Estate Group property at 2021 E. Fifth St. The Austin headcount is expected to grow to 80 within the next year as the company fills roles in engineering, marketing, and product management. Today, Jungle Scout employs more than 120 people around the world.
Greg Mercer, founder and CEO of Jungle Scout, says he was seeking a “thriving tech community” for his company to call home. Mercer launched the business in 2015.
“We were in a unique position because the business was already taking off, we were bootstrapped [and] profitable, and we had a growing workforce — but we had no headquarters,” Mercer says in an October 8 release. “We could pick anywhere in the world. We knew Austin was our spot right away. The tech community is a powerful resource for our growth stage, and the talent here is second to none.”
Aside from Austin, Jungle Scout recently opened offices in Vancouver, Canada, and Shenzhen, China.
Among the new hires in Austin are Michael Paulson, former head of product at Austin-based Bazaarvoice, as chief product officer; Bill Bowles, former head of analytics at Austin-based Vrbo (HomeAway), as chief financial officer; and Michael Scheschuk, former vice president of e-commerce, marketing, and operations at New York City-based Ziff Davis, as chief marketing officer.
Jungle Scout says its technology supports more than $1 billion in revenue generated on Amazon.
