Can't search this? MC Hammer breaks it down, explaining why his new searchengine beats Google
Think Google is too legit to quit? Well, think again.
MC Hammer, he of the early '90s ubiquity and the enormous pants, announced his entry into the search engine business at the Web 2.0 summit in San Francisco on Wednesday. While it's tempting to joke about initiating a search by clicking "Hammer time!" this project is more than a punchline.
According to Mashable, Hammer says his engine, called WireDoo, has been in development for two years and will feature a new kind of search technology that will provide more relevant results.
Most search engines are built on links and keywords, explained Hammer at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco. Google and other search engines aren’t as strong at connecting keywords to related topics — something he called relationship search.
Hammer explained a search for a car is not just about the car, but about the model, the mileage, the specs and even the zip code (you likely want to buy from a local dealer). A search for a home is related to the surrounding community, schools, neighborhood condition and other related concerns.
“It’s about relationships beyond just the keywords,” Hammer said on stage.
WireDoo hasn't yet launched its beta version — no, Hammer fans, you can't currently touch this — but there's a sign-up on the website to be included when the search engine is ready.
