Spacefaring with Elon Musk, SXSW Interactive's newest announced keynote
SXSW Interactive announced the second of its headlining keynote speakers with the unveiling of Elon Musk, the CEO and Product Architect of Tesla Motors and the CEO and CTO of SpaceX.
Before his current C-level entrepreneurial positions, Musk was a principal architect behind a website we now know as PayPal, called X.com at the time.
At SpaceX, Musk focuses on the advancement of rocket technology and, ultimately, space exploration.
"There have only been about a half dozen genuinely important events in the four-billion-year saga of life on Earth. . . The next big moment will be life becoming multiplanetary, an unprecedented adventure that would dramatically enhance the richness and diversity of our collective consciousness," Musk told Esquire of the SpaceX's focus on spacefaring in 2008.
At Tesla, Musk oversees the development and design of the all-electric Tesla Roadster, Model S and Model X. "Transitioning to a sustainable energy economy in which electric vehicles play a pivotal role," SXSW writes, "has been one of his central interests for almost two decades."
Last month, SXSW revealed Matthew Inman of comic website The Oatmeal as the first confirmed keynote speaker — a delightful juxtaposition to Musk's scientific brilliance.
Badges to attend the conference remain on sale, and more big-name announcements are expected to roll out over the coming months.
