Rustic South Austin fairytale house hits the market for $1.75 million
Two iconic homes on a 0.183-acre lot in South Austin's Bouldin Creek neighborhood are carving out their place within Austin's housing market with a lavish price tag of $1.75 million – and it's not hard to see why.
The charming, street-facing home at 705 W. Mary St., Unit A, is a cottagecore-loving enthusiast's dream. The cozy Bouldin Gingerbread house is a two-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath cottage spanning 912 square feet.
The exterior of the gorgeous home looks like it came straight out of a fairytale. But upon entering from the enclosed front porch, guests are welcomed into a serene, modern blank-canvas space that's begging to be decorated with various plants, earthy colors, and mushroom decor.
According to the listing, managed by Douglas Elliman sales agents Emily Waldmann and Megan Gallagher, the cottage is just a few years shy of a century old. It was originally built in 1927, and was revivified by local design-build firm Spaller Glover in 2011. Now it has become "an incredible opportunity to own a piece of Austin history," the listing says.
Additional features of the home include a sunken living room, open floor plan, and original oak floors.

Meanwhile, the second home on the lot — Unit B — is a newer, separate two-story home with its own private access via an alleyway. It contains three bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms across 1,359 square feet.
This home looks vastly different from the Gingerbread house, taking a significantly modern approach to the exterior and interior design. First-floor patio doors in the living room lead to the gravel backyard, and there's an additional second-floor balcony that tacks on another 366 square feet of space for lounging or entertaining.
This second house was built in 2017, which is very apparent in its minimalistic style cabinetry in the kitchen and bathrooms, the open floor plan, the bright white walls throughout, and the home's emphasis on natural light.

Future owners are likely to maintain these homes as quaint short-term (or long term) rental properties, as the listing states they have been in the past. And with the homes' ideal location in Bouldin Creek, owners or visitors will be a short two-mile drive away from downtown, and within walking distance of all the restaurants and shops on South Congress Avenue.
Both homes and the lot are all being sold together, and furniture is negotiable, the listing says. More information about the property can be found on Zillow.
