Uchiko's Tim Dornon to join QUI in new role as Chef Consultant
More developments have just been announced from the buzzing team at QUI, Top Chef Paul Qui's soon-to-open East Side establishment.
On Tuesday, QUI announced in a press release that current Uchiko Chef de Cuisine Tim Dornon will leave his post at the esteemed sushi spot to join Qui in the newly defined role of Chef Consultant. At QUI, Dornon will work closely with Paul Qui on menu development, food execution and daily operations.
What is a clear loss for Uchiko is an evident gain for one of 2013's most anticipated restaurants.
“I think Tim is one of the most talented, yet unrecognized chefs in the city. It’s my honor to work with him,” Paul Qui said in the press release. “He provides a great balance to my madness.”
Dornon and Qui previously worked together when Dornon joined the Uchiko team in 2011. While at Uchiko, Dornon was trained and groomed by Qui, as well as Uchiko's chef/owner Tyson Cole.
“Tim has been an asset to the Uchiko team and we wish him the best of luck as he moves over to work with Paul,” Cole said in the release. “I’m sure great things will happen on the menu over at QUI. As his teacher and mentor my desire is to always support and assist Paul in all his future endeavors, and wish him nothing but success.”
QUI, set to open this spring, will be Paul Qui's flagship restaurant, an intimate 55-seat restaurant, with 10-seat tasting room.
