Fiesta con Familia
Prepare for a fiesta at La Condesa's 5th Annual Cinco de Mayo Block Party
Throw on your favorite rebozo or serape, because Sunday is the biggest fiesta of the year. Cinco de Mayo is the largest celebration of Mexican-American culture and heritage, and for those living in Texas, there is no excuse to lounge on the couch at home and blend your own margaritas.
You could simply go out for lunch at your favorite Tex-Mex joint, but if you want to celebrate with proper pomp you’ll need to hightail it to La Condesa's 5th Annual Cinco de Mayo Block Party. The award-winning modern Mexican restaurant goes beyond the norm of marking the occasion with drink and menu specials, and transforms an entire block of Second Street into a cultural extravaganza.
“This block party just continues to grow and grow each year,” says La Condesa owner Jesse Herman in a press release. “It’s great to see so many people out in the street enjoying great bands, drinks and food each year.”
And, trust us, there will be plenty of food and drinks to go around. Party-goers should prepare to dine on La Condesa’s famous and mouth-watering Mexican street food, from grilled street corn to chicken and pork tacos. And what would a Cinco de Mayo party be without some quesadillas?
Wash all of the meat and cheese down with a selection of drinks, including agua frescas, refreshing margaritas and Mexican imported beers.
Cinco de Mayo also wouldn’t feel right without some tunes to set the celebratory mood; bands such as Bombasta, Le Guerilla and Este Vato will give you the beat to dance the day away. And with face painting and balloon making also scheduled, the block party is a top option for the entire family to have fun together this weekend.
La Condesa's Block Party kicks off Sunday at 1 p.m.; the fun lasts until 9 p.m. Entry is free, but you might want to stock up on cash for that extra margarita.
