New Food Truck Park
New Austin area food truck park set to open — playground and family fun included
The new Midway Food Park sounds like something of an experiment. It's trying to bring real family fun — including its own playground — to food truck parks. It either will be a spectacular success or a compelling failure. And everyone's about to start finding out which.
One of the more interesting food truck developments in recent memory is set to open Thursday, August 15, at 11 am, on a 2-acre site at 1905 S. Capital of Texas Hwy. That's when high-profile food trucks like Dock and Roll Diner will begin serving lunch.
Eventually, the food truck park's owners hope to build a rotating lineup of around eight food trucks.
The Seedling Truck will roll up to serve dinner starting at 5 pm. The One Taco truck is also slated to be one of the first trucks operating at Midway (thought its debut date hasn't been set yet). Eventually, the food truck park's owners hope to build a rotating lineup of around eight food trucks.
Those owners are a local food-loving couple — Sarah and Jason Hannon — and they're well aware of the market they're entering. Sarah Hannon graduated from nearby Westlake High School.
"I get to bring in a little bit of the funky Austin we’re missing out here," she tells Community Impact Newspaper.
Of course, the new food park is also paying respect to its family-friendly area. It regularly updated the progress of the playground build with posts on its Facebook page. Midway Food Park is doing things its own way.
