The Cocktail Chronicles
Rich is one way to describe this Austin bartender's bourbon concoction
Need a special cocktail recipe for an upcoming holiday celebration? Then watch the eighth episode of Old Forester's Cocktail Chronicles. Austin bartender Jayson Black makes his Midnight Rambler old fashioned, which is rich with maple notes, he says.
Another cool trick: He rinses the glass with pastis, an anise-flavored aperitif, before pouring in the finished drink.
Midnight Rambler Old Fashioned
Yields 1 drink
2 ounces Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond
.5 ounce fig syrup
2 dashes black walnut bitters
Black cherries
Lemon
Add ice to glass to chill while mixing the cocktail.
Add lemon peel to mixing glass, twisting to express oils into glass. Add fig syrup, Old Forester, and bitters. Add ice and stir.
Remove ice from original glass and rinse glass with a pastis. Strain cocktail into glass and garnish with cherries.
