Slice slice baby
One of Central Texas' best pizzerias fires up first Austin location in 2020
From Bufalina to Via 313, the Capital City has a wealth of tasty pizza options. Still, one of the best pizzerias in the area has, until now, frustratingly stuck to the suburbs. That will soon change as Slapbox Pizzicheria, from the owners of popular Georgetown eatery 600 Degrees Pizza and Drafthouse, makes its debut inside Austin's city limits in 2020.
The new restaurant will debut in North Austin, at 9900 Parmer Lane B-100, in summer 2020, an employee at the Round Rock location confirms. Before then, there is still plenty of work to be done, as the address formerly housed a dry cleaners.
Slapbox specializes in New York-style pizza, served as a 24-inch whole pie or by the slice with a kosher pickle. Toppings range from mainstays like pepperoni, Canadian bacon, jalapeños, and olives to gourmet choices like lamb and beef gyro meat, chorizo, fresh basil, and Genoa salami.
In addition to the pies, Slapbox also offers typical pizzeria fare like fresh garlic knots made with grass-fed butter, meatballs, and wings tossed in a variety of sauces. Less expectedly, it also serves bone-in pork shanks, french-cut for convenient dipping.
To accompany all the bold flavors, Slapbox also offers a curated selection of beer. The mix always changes, but customers can expect to find a variety of local and Texas favorites, cult selections from American craft brewers, best-selling imports, and a few crowd-pleasing domestics.
The North Austin outpost will be the second location of Slapbox and the third restaurant for the group overall. Owner Mark Thompson opened 600 Degrees in Georgetown in 2014 before introducing the first Slapbox in Round Rock in late 2017.
