Thousands of bicyclist and runners replaced the usual Monday morning rush hour traffic this Labor Day—and what a gorgeous day it turned out to be.
Athletes knocking out the AVIA Austin Triathlon, including yours truly and CultureMap Managing Editor Caitlin M. Ryan, lucked out with temperatures nowhere near the recent record breaking 112 degrees. The wind made for a tough swim and bike course but there were no complaints during the run.
Professional athlete and Austinite James Bonney took home the top prize knocking out the Olympic Triathlon in 1:56:14. D'Ann Arthur of Dallas was the first woman to cross the finish line at 2:06:02.
The AVIA Austin Triathlon is one of six in the Texas Tri Series. The Kerrville Triathlon on October 1st and 2nd is the final race in the series.
