Red River Rivalry
5-star football recruit fuels new Red River rivalry with Twitter post
A five-star football recruit from California has ignited a new Red River rivalry with his Twitter account.
Iman Marshall, a cornerback from Long Beach Polytechnic High School, is using Twitter in a crowdsourcing experiment to determine which universities he'll visit this fall. On Thursday, Marshall posted a list of his top six universities, but he can only officially visit five. "I'm torn between Texas and Oklahoma," Marshall tweeted. "I'm asking the fan base of both programs to help me decide between these two historic programs."
Why should Longhorn fans care? Marshall is a good football recruit. And when we say good, we’re talking about a five-star recruit listed by 247sports as the No. 1 prospect overall in California and the No. 5 recruit in the entire nation. Marshall is a prize worth fighting over for both Longhorns and Sooners.
The rivalry has taken to Twitter with diehard fans of both schools tweeting which one Marshall should pick. Sooners are trying to sway Marshall to Oklahoma with pesky facts like the OU football program's total number of national championships, conference championships and Heisman Trophy winners. Longhorn fans are banking on the promise of new head coach Charlie Strong to bring Marshall to Texas.
But UT fans have another point that they hope will make Marshall's decision easier. Live in Norman, Oklahoma or Austin, Texas? We think the choice is clear.
@iman_marshall8 a trip to Austin, Tx will always beat a trip to Norman, Oklahoma anyday! Better city, more things to see/enjoy at the school
