W Austin's $40M renovation unveils bold design and a new brasserie
After a year and approximately $40 million, W Austinhas completed its major renovation.
The transformative update for the 2nd Street District hotel introduces the all-new restaurant Serenade American Brasserie, 2nd & Roast coffee shop, and Blue Room cocktail bar, plus update to Living Room and a complete upgrade of the guest rooms.
“Historically Austin has always been a hub for live music, trailblazers, and a bohemian lifestyle, and we wanted to reflect that through this design,” says W Austin general manager Joanna McCreary. “Our goal is to continue being a central hub for people to connect, whether that be surrounded by nature on our patio, listening to live music in the hotel’s Living Room, or enjoying a meal at Serenade.”
The renovation was spearheaded by Opry Entertainment Group, a subsidiary of Ryman Hospitality Properties, Inc.
The newly designed guest rooms and suites at W Austin offer an immersive journey into Austin's spirit. The rooms have been fully re-envisioned with textures and colors that meld Austin’s reputation as hub for live music and the natural beauty of the city’s surroundings. Taking inspiration from the sweeping views of Lady Bird Lake and its encircling trees, the deep green adorning all the walls and natural materials like real hardwood floors in each guest room will encourage relaxation.

Inspired by its Block 21 counterpart, ACL Live, prints by renowned Austin City Limits photographer Scott Newton adorn the walls.
Premium amenities, including Nespresso machines, Marshall Bluetooth speakers, luxurious Frette robes, and Davines bath products ensure an unparalleled stay.
There are 32 suites available, including four two-bedroom suites and the largest luxury suite in Austin: Penthouse I.
Whether Austinites and travelers are stopping by before their morning run at Lady Bird Lake or grabbing happy hour with coworkers, W Austin’s all-new 2nd & Roast coffee shop features coffee and espresso from local Austin roaster Medici alongside chef-crafted, French-inspired bites and pastries.
Living Room redefines the hotel lobby experience, evolving with the city’s rhythm. The centerpiece is a stunning gold bar inspired by the fluid lines of a trumpet, creating a venue that shifts from a serene daytime retreat to a bustling nightlife hub featuring performances by Austin’s top DJs.
The exclusive Blue Room, W Austin’s new by-reservation cocktail bar, boasts luxurious midnight blue decor with accents of gold and natural wood. This hidden gem offers a seating-only experience where Austin’s finest mixologists craft both classic and custom cocktails, allowing guests to unwind in an elevated urban oasis. Signature cocktails include the Desert Wish, made of Patron Reposado tequila, St. Germain, palo santo syrup, orange, egg white, fever tree soda, and the NOLA, comprised of Sazerac Rye, St. George Nola coffee liqueur, Luxardo, and walnut bitters.
At Serenade American Brasserie, a new culinary venture, chef de cuisine Johnny Ray Stinebaugh skillfully blends Texan flavors with classic brasserie techniques.

The entire menu can be enjoyed at the bar, in the main dining room, and on the extensive outdoor patio. Serenade also has two private dining rooms and can host private and semi-private events for all occasions.
