A future with Fiber is getting closer for many Austinites. On Monday, Google Fiber announced that it has expanded sign-up for its ultra-high-speed Internet service to new Austin neighborhoods.
Four lucky 'hoods in Southeast Austin — East Riverside, East Oltorf, Montopolis and Dove Springs — can sign up for the service as of Monday.
The sign-up deadlines for these fiberhoods range from October 8 for East Riverside to February 25, 2016 for Dove Springs. If enough people in the neighborhoods sign up, Google will complete the construction process. After that, residents can schedule installation.
Google Fiber offers Internet connection speeds up to 100 times faster than the average connection speed. The service also includes hundreds of high-definition television channels. Sign-up for the Austin service began in December 2014 and has already concluded in some of the first fiberhoods.
You can drop by the Google Fiber Space downtown to experience the technology before it arrives in your 'hood.
