Well this is a bummer. Grocery store/corner shop/vegan taco mecca The Wet Whistle has announced it will close on Tuesday, October 7. The announcement was made on Sunday, a surprise considering the store was raising funds for an outdoor patio as recently as last week.

Located on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Chicon Street, the Whistle has been a one-stop shop for vegan and vegetarian goodies, local products, wine and craft beers for more than two years. (It also serves an excellent Americano.)

Austin 360 has a few more details about the closing, noting that "an absentee landlord," battles over an outdoor patio and a $500 raise in rent led to owner Jon Lawrence's decision to close.

But don't worry, this may not be the end of the Whistle. According to Facebook, Lawrence hopes to reopen on the east side by January 1, 2015. Until then, the shop is encouraging folks to "stop in and save" on its current stock, and to say goodbye to this little gem. It will be missed.
