FLOTUS Returns
First lady Michelle Obama returns to Central Texas this week
During the recent Civil Rights Summit, Austin played host to three former presidents as well as current President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama. It seems that the FLOTUS can’t get enough of our Central Texas charm.
On Monday morning, San Antonio mayor Julian Castro announced that the First Lady will make an official visit to his city this week to speak at the fourth annual College Signing Day event at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Contrary to its name, this College Signing Day doesn’t involve high school football recruits revealing which college they will attend. Instead, it’s part of Destination College, a week-long event launched by Mayor Castro to attract new college students to the home of the Alamo.
Destination College features various free events over the course of the week, but the highlight is Michelle Obama's speech on Friday, May 2 at UTSA. The First Lady will discuss President Obama’s “North Star” education goal, which, by 2020, seeks to restore the United States' designation as the country with the most college graduates.
On Twitter, UTSA and Mayor Castro expressed excitement to be hosting the First Lady for this event, which is an important step in establishing San Antonio as a major economic and cultural center.
So excited #UTSA is hosting FLOTUS @MichelleObama on Friday for #CollegeWeekSA!
