Calling All Campers
Contemporary Austin's fun fall fundraiser heads to the great outdoors
Break out the bug spray — it's time to go back to camp. The Contemporary's highly anticipated fall fundraiser Camp Contemporary returns on October 20, turning Laguna Gloria's 14-acre site into a festive camp for adults that's complete with live music, camp-inspired drinks and eats, and grown-up arts and crafts.
Demand is always high for this hot-ticket event, so secure your spot early. Need a little more convincing before you buy? Here's what you need to know:
Croon around the campfire
A lineup of beloved and emerging Austin artists is ready to rock the Camp Stage. Walker Lukens, fresh off his Texas tour; one-man-band Mobley; experimental pop band SMiiLE; and sultry singer Lolita Lynne will each perform that evening.
Better than the mess hall
A stellar lineup of local and regional restaurant collaborators are each presenting their own camp-inspired twist on a dish. Nosh on fare from Elm Restaurant Group, épicerie, Le Politique, Joann’s Fine Foods, and Supper. Chameleon Cold-Brew is collaborating on a special dessert pop-up, while Sourced Cocktails, Maker's Mark, Tito's Handmade Vodka, and more are providing the sips. And, of course, there will be s'mores.
Get crafty
Campers can dive into mini-workshops led by The Contemporary's art school instructors, as well as hands-on activities from local partners. Learn watercolor painting with Mark Mitchell, screen printing with Jonas Criscoe, wheel throwing with Melissa Mencini, how to work with smudge sticks led by Art & Soul Design, and mala bracelet-making with Castle Hill Fitness.
Get outdoorsy with activities
Lounge lakeside thanks to Kammok hammocks, partake in a Sound Bath hosted by Outdoor Voices, bid on the silent auction, try your luck with the raffle, and go on a lantern-led sculpture tour around the property.
Do good while having fun
All proceeds from the evening's event benefit The Contemporary Austin's art education programs, which serve more than 30,000 children and adults each year. Tickets are $200 per person or $175 each for Contemporary members.
