Creek Show 2017
Waller Creek brightens up the downtown night with dazzling light show
Over the past four years, Creek Show, Waller Creek Conservancy's week-long art installation, has marked the unofficial kickoff to the holiday season. Held during what usually turns out to be the first cold nights of the year, the show offers the community a unique chance to go below the streets of downtown Austin and experience something truly magical.
An immersive, illuminating experience, this year's Creek Show will run November 10-18, and feature six site-specific light installations from local designers. Free and open to the public, the show is held in the heart of the Red River Cultural District, and runs the length of Waller Creek between Fifth and Eighth streets.
For the first time this year, Waller Creek Conservancy held an open call for submissions to Creek Show. Out of nearly 50 entries, the following six were selected: No Lifeguard on Duty by Asakura Robinson; Night Garden by dwg.; Blind Spot by Two+ Collaborative; fotan FABLE by HA Architecture; Ephemeral Suspension by PATHOS + TouchTo; and Submerge byDavey McEathron Architecture + Studio Lumina + Drophouse. The installations are open every evening from 6-10 pm.
In addition to the show, Waller Creek Conservancy will host events throughout the week to benefit the nonprofit. On Tuesday, November 14, meet the teams behind the installations during the Creek Show Artist Talk from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Palm Door. The event is free, but an RSVP is required.
On Thursday, November 16, join Generation Waller for Monster Bash from 6-9 pm at The Gatsby. Enjoy a silent auction and raffle to support the Waller Creek Conservancy's efforts. And say goodbye to the show in style during the closing party at Cheer Up Charlies on November 18 from 6-9 pm.
