Over 15 years, The VORTEX has actively cultivated butterfly vines, fed the caterpillars, and watched them emerge from their chrysalises as butterflies of many varieties, with more than 40 species of butterflies passing through the Garden. They'll celebrate with a day of art, planting, live music, and renewal of the Earth. Bring a butterfly plant to add to our butterfly garden.
There will be a brief ceremony at honoring Radius, the belovéd VORTEX cat who crossed over on January 3, 2025 after a long life at The VORTEX where he had made his home since 2008 when he was a feral kitten.
There will be live music by Roland & the Roots Riddim and Ogo and the Erph Tones, as well as scenes from the world premiere musical dance theatre production of MotherTree.
Other activities include the Tiny Tails to You Petting Zoo, arts and crafts to create butterfly-inspired artworks, and The Butterfly Bar serving Garden-inspired cocktails.
Donations of butterfly-friendly plants are much appreciated, including native plants like Milkweed (for the Monarchs), Shrimp Plant, Verbena, Frogfruit, Gregg’s Mistflower, Yarrow, Zinnia, and Snap Dragon.
