Video preview: PUNCH! Comedy celebrates its sixth season finale tonight at CapCity
Tonight marks the finale of PUNCH! Comedy’s successful sixth season, a run of stand up showcases featuring some of the best acts from Austin and beyond, hosted by Matt Bearden.
Season seven will start up in January (follow PUNCH!'s Twitter for to-the-minute updates), but there's still one last blowout, featuring seven local stand ups — all of whom are so exceptionally funny that tonight's PUNCH! promises to be one of the best ever. Take a look at the comics slated to take the stage tonight at 8 p.m. at Cap City Comedy:
Host of the weekly Live at ColdTowne curated showcase, Nazer recently appeared at the Montreal Just for Laughs festival. He’s also a two-time top three finalist in the Funniest Person in Austin contest.
Flores is a veteran of the Altercation Punk Comedy Tour and a frequent Fun Fun Fun Fest performer; he was also recently featured in a Chronicle cover story on an East Side apartment complex that many local comics call home.
McCaffrey is a sometimes-Austinite who splits his time between his native New York and the road; we’re lucky to have him in town for the next few months. He’s got credits on Comedy Central, VH1, The Onion News Network and Invite Them Up, but we doubt anything can top his live set.
Editor-in-Chief of the Texas Travesty (the largest college humor magazine in the country), McQuary’s been a Funniest Person in Austin finalist, and he founded The New Movement’s bi-monthly Hashtag Comedy showcase.
Wilkerson sometimes performs as Satan, but that doesn’t mean his usual material is lacking in offensive and/or bitterly biting wit.
Recently relocated from Pittsburgh, PA, Palumbo is already a regular performer at Cap City.
Co-host of the wildly popular Encyclopedia Show (and CultureMap contributor) Hardesty makes his PUNCH! debut at tonight’s finale.
