Blue Genie Art Bazaar hosts month-long spring market showcasing Austin makers
Best known for its holiday market, Blue Genie Art Bazaar (BGAB) has a spring fling for crafty Austinites who don’t want to wait until December to support their favorite makers. Kicking off on Friday, April 26, and running through Memorial Day, May 27, May Market is an art and shopping experience showcasing nearly 200 regional artists and artisans.
Similar to its sister event, the market will feature a wide variety of hand-made items including jewelry, home decor, clothing, pottery, and fine art. Located at 6100 Airport Blvd., the market will open every Friday through Sunday from 10 am to 8 pm.
A few special guests will also pop by the market throughout its spring run, including Austin-based Typewriter Rodeo. On Mother’s Day, May 12, two poets from Typewriter Rodeo will compose free, spontaneous short poems for moms – or the maternal figure in your life you’d like to honor. Then, on Memorial Day, an Amy’s Ice Cream truck will round out the month-long market, serving on-site sweet treats from 11 am to 4 pm.
Besides these special guests, May Market shoppers can also look out for fun DIY crafts such as a card printing station on Saturdays from 10 am to 3 pm.
“We’re fortunate to live in such a creative community,” said Blue Genie Art Bazaar co-founder Dana Younger in a press release. “The May Market brings even more of these amazing artists together under one roof, so guests can find that special gift for any spring celebration.”
This year’s spring market pledges a $1,000 donation to Austin Creative Alliance, which supports more than 3,000 Austin area artists and organizations. Shoppers can also match or exceed that amount via donation at the register.
Blue Genie offers an ample parking lot, as well as nearby street parking, or shoppers can make use of the MetroRail Highland Station just steps away. Entry to the market is free. More information is available at bluegenieartbazaar.com.
