2013: the year of the list. Austin topped just about every single listicle, from new restaurants to overrated travel destinations. But as 2013 came to a close, the Washington Post made sure Bat City showed up on one more.
Every year, the Post puts out The List. It's a tongue-in-cheek peek at what will be "out" and what will be "in" for the coming year. Well, get ready to pack it all up and move to Detroit, because according to the Washington Post, Austin is "out."
It did, however, give us an alternative city that is "in": Buffalo. Have they ever been there? Because the high temperature today in Buffalo is supposed to be 11.
11 degrees.
Granted, Buffalo does have excellent chicken wings, and who doesn't want to live across the street from Canada, but come on.
What else made the "out" list? Fireball Cinnamon Whisky, brussels sprouts (take note East Side King), kombucha and Jennifer Lawrence. All the things we love! What's next? Breakfast tacos aren't cool? Riding your bike is passe? Good god.
But don't worry, it's not all bad. While we might be collectively uncool, there are a few things Austinites really, really like that made the "in" list, including succulents, distilling things, fancy lady hair for men and brassed fixtures.
