Fitness Secrets
The No. 1 way to get better results in your group fitness class
It’s January, and resolution season is in full swing. With the recent holidays sprinkled — or doused — with sugar, it’s not hard to believe that the most popular resolution is to get healthier, fitter, or some version of that.
I’ve been in the fitness industry in Austin for more than a decade. For the last seven of those, I have been the group programs manager at Castle Hill Fitness, a boutique, local gym with a family-type feel. One could say that I live and breathe for a group-class environment — and they’d be totally right.
In Austin, the avenues to achieve the #fitlife are plenty. Group fitness, yoga, barre, and cycle studios exist en masse to get you moving toward your goal at light speed. But as a person who loves all things group fitness, I’m going to share a little tip to get the best results from your class — and you won’t find it in the classroom.
After sustaining an injury that kept me out of the classroom for months, I discovered that having a personal trainer was the secret to making an even stronger return.
My personal trainer at Castle Hill helped expose and correct imbalances in my body that were robbing me of strength and power. When I returned to group classes, they were more effective, less painful, and overall more fun because my body was moving in a more efficient way.
Budget-wise, group classes will always win; however, the investment made in just a few one-on-one sessions will pay dividends for your body long term. And isn’t that the very resolution we all want? To have your healthy goals turn into a lifestyle change and not a passing phase that fades out after spring break?
Bottom line: If you are one of the many who desire more fitness in 2016 (or fewer injuries, or better results, the list can go on), consider the value offered by having your specific needs met through a few hours of one-on-one care from a personal trainer.
