Tragedy on Mopac
Police identify victim of this weekend's MoPac hit and run as UT student-athlete

KVUE — Police have released the name of a pedestrian killed by a hit-and-run driver on Sunday, March 2.
Philip Wood, 22, was walking along northbound MoPac near Windsor Lane in Central Austin around 2:20 am when witnesses say someone driving a small late 90s model pickup truck hit him and then sped away. Wood was pronounced dead at the scene.
A representative with the University of Texas athletics department says Wood was a distance runner on the Texas track and field team from the 2009-10 and 2011-12 seasons.
Officers are searching for the driver and say the vehicle most likely has damage to its front end and headlights. "This can be a felony once this person is caught," said Sgt. Stephen Andreini with the Austin Police Department.
Residents say they see pedestrians trying to cross the busy highway all too often. "It's really dangerous, especially at night," said resident Cameron Gee.
