Wheel of Fortune
Wheel of Fortune is coming to Austin — and you could be a contestant
For the past 40 years, Wheel of Fortune has pitted Americans against their television sets. Sitting in the comfort of our homes, we've all felt good enough to compete ... but do you actually have what it takes to spin the wheel?
Later this month, Austinites will get a chance to become a contestant on Wheel of Fortune. On Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29 at First Texas Honda, the popular game show will host several one-hour competitions in the official Wheel of Fortune Winnebago, the Wheelmobile. Sadly, Pat Sajak and Vanna White won't be there, but the Wheelmobile is promising a fun game show experience and a chance to appear on the actual show.
Show times for the Wheelmobile's Austin stop are 1 pm, 2:30 pm and 4 pm on both days. One hour before each show, the Wheel of Fortune team will hand out applications from which participants will be randomly selected.
The lucky few who compete on the Wheelmobile will battle for show-themed swag, in addition to showing off for the Wheel of Fortune team. While the contestants play, production staff will evaluate their TV potential. The most impressive will be invited to attend a final audition to become a full-fledged Wheel of Fortunate contestant.
Unfortunately, not everyone will be selected to compete. According to the Wheel of Fortune website, only 600 people were chosen from more than one million applications last year. "Even if your application isn't chosen, you'll still experience all the fun of Wheel of Fortune as if you were at a taping with Pat and Vanna," reads the website. "We'll also place your application in a drawing for a spot in the final contestant auditions."
