Weekday Warrior: From a 90s flick to a punctuation fix
The temperatures are on the climb, and so are the amount of activities with which to fill your week. But between the live music, the book signings, and the endless stream of Alamo gems, what are the best bets for you?
Here’s our weekly guide to keep you busy during the days that don’t start with S.
Monday, April 9
Music Monday: Singles @ Alamo Ritz
Cameron Crowe’s beloved love letter to the grunge-soaked city of Seattle is known as much for its cast of pre-fame fresh faces (Matt Dillon, Campbell Scott, Bridget Fonda, a nearly-mute Eddie Vedder) as it is for its stellar soundtrack of Paul Westerberg solo jams. So say lace up those Doc Martens, and get your best baby doll dress ready, because if Steve has taught us anything, it’s that it’s important to live your life like a French movie.
Wendy McClure: The Wilder Life @ BookPeople
Esteemed writer and poet Wendy McClure heads to BookPeople to sign copies of her latest book, The Wilder Life: I’m Not the New Me. She is a columnist for Bust, a regular contributor to popular TV site Television Without Pity, as well as a contributor to Glamour, the New York Times and many other publications.
Tuesday, April 10
Brooklyn-based Craig Finn (Friday Night Lights fan, extraordinaire) brings his full band back to the location where he recorded his recent solo disc, Clear Heart, Full Eyes. Coach Taylor would be proud.
Big Screen Classics: Cool Hand Luke @ Alamo Lake Creek
“What we have here is a failure to communicate.” Alamo presents this Paul Newman chain gang classic, complete with hard-boiled egg eating contest before the show. Don’t overdo it, because if you’ll remember, no man can eat 50 eggs.

We’ve all seen the video a million times, so why not catch Randall in the flesh? The voice behind the pithy “Honey Badger” sensation has taken his voice to the page, and will treat patrons to a live reading. Don’t worry if you can’t make it, though — because honey badger doesn’t give a f*ck.
Cap City Presents: Anthony Jeselnik
You’ve seen him on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Comedy Central, and now here’s your chance to catch one of Variety’s 2008 “10 Comics to Watch” in the flesh.

The Encyclopedia Show Presents: Punctuation! @ ND @501 Studios
Sure, it often gets overlooked (and used improperly), but punctuation is pretty vital to our appreciation of the written word. The Encyclopedia show pays tribute to the oft-overlooked symbols that stop us, break us up, and slow us down, with this dedicated show. See, Vampire Weekend — people really do give a f*ck about an Oxford Comma.
Friday, April 13
Delta Spirit with WATERS @ Emo's East
Delta Spirit’s latest album is just begging for heavy summer rotation; full of harmonies and songs that harken lazy days. Soak up the musical sun as they headline Emo's East on spooky Friday the 13.

There you have it, Austinites. You can appreciate the semicolon, rock out with some indie rockers, and sample some of Austin’s culinary Tastemakers — all before turning off that alarm on Saturday morning.
